Spreading God’s Word en Español!
“Dios es bueno!” (God is good!) a much-repeated
sentence these days around Crossway Chapel of
Wilmington. Pastors Tom Harcus and Matt
Moorehead are delighted and somewhat
bewildered at what God is doing to bring Latinos
into the church family. Almost 50% of the 80
regulars speak Spanish as their first language. In
an attempt to respond, Tom has been diligently
studying Spanish for the last 6 months using a
computer language acquisition tool.
In late May, pastors Tom and Matt attended one of the first meetings of their new Spanish-speaking Life Group to affirm Saul Matus as the leader and communicate their support and love for them. The time began with Tom’s first attempt to speak publicly to a larger group of people strictly in Spanish. At the end he asked, “¿Comprenden?” (Do you understand?) to which they graciously responded with golf claps and smiles. It is from the Latin community that CCW is seeing the greatest amount of growth both by way of attendance as well as conversions.
